AFSCME Statement on Justice O'Connor Resignation
As you no doubt have heard, today Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced her
resignation from the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court rules on issues that
profoundly affect working people, and AFSCME is calling on President Bush to
work with both Democrats and Republicans to select a consensus nominee who will
protect the interests of America's working families.
In the coming days you will be hearing from us on how you can make your voice
heard for a nominee who will respect the rights of working people and -- if
necessary -- help stop the appointment of any nominee with an extremist,
conservative judicial philosophy and political agenda.
In the meantime, you can read AFSCME
President Gerald W. McEntee's statement on Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor's resignation by

Together, we can make a difference.
